Match Your Colors, People!

While deep diving into the Library of Congress archives, I discovered American etiquette and rules of politeness by Rev. A.B. Philputt, A.B.;assisted by Prof. Walter R. Houghton, A.M.; Prof. James K. Beck [etc.]. Published in 1882, it’s an extensive and highly specific guidebook for the 19th century man and woman. It includes two lengthy lists which I’m including here. The first is a list of all appropriate color combinations for clothing. Forget Instyle or Lucky Magazine. The reverend’s got you covered.
